Bain Music Department-Mrs. Karikas

6th Grade Voice Instruction meet two or three times a week, and rotate like any other Unified Arts class. This class focuses on continuing technique, music literacy, and encouraging musical independence and teamwork to set students up for success in the 7th/8th grade combined ensembles.

Students will perform twice a year in this ensemble. Please make sure your contact information is up to date on Aspen so that you may stay informed of upcoming performances!

7th/8th Grade Mixed Ensembles meet once a week (Wednesday mornings) during the advisory period. These periods focus strictly on learning repertoire for performance, and sharpening students’ ensemble skills.

Students in these ensembles will perform twice a year in the music department concerts, but may also have additional performance opportunities (Assemblies, Memorial Day Program) as we are able to schedule them. The goal is to give students a unique classroom experience that prepares them for the high school music experience.

Students in chorus also take Voice Instruction.

Students in these classes will focus on improving vocal technique, and applying it to varied repertoire for performance. The class also places emphasis on music literacy through solfege and ear training, giving students the skills to take written music and turn it into sound without using recordings or overreliance on accompanying instruments.

Students in this special 6th grade class are actually a part of an ensemble. Due to instrument and scheduling constraints, students who signed up for an ensemble but could not be placed there will participate in percussion and ukulele ensembles.
